Trash the Dress Shoots

Posted on: April 24th, 2012 by Vicki No Comments

We love Trash the dress shoots, also known as fearless bridal or rock the frock, it is a style of wedding photography that contrasts elegant clothing with an environment in which it is out-of-place.

We have been on the search for some fabulous “Trash the Dress” images for inspiration. “Trash the dress” is the art of destruction or deconstruction of a brides wedding dress to create a new “artwork” that the bride would be proud to display on their wall.

Have a look at some of these images would you dare trash you dress?

Guest Blog: Photography By Clare

Posted on: April 19th, 2012 by Vicki 1 Comment

Last week we were on the hunt  to feature some new suppliers for you and a few tweets later we came across Photography By Clare.  Which is why we were pleased that Clare accepted our request to be one of our guest bloggers. Here is a bit about Clare and her company!

Name & Company Name: Clare Richards & Photography by Clare

Where are you based & how far are you willing to travel for a wedding?

I’m based in the East Midlands (Nottingham) so I mainly work in the area. But I do weddings far and wide – I’ve photographed weddings in Wales before and I also have weddings in London this year.

How long have you been taking photos?

Photography is my love in life and it has been long before I moved to Nottingham in 2006 to study my degree in photography. My interest in photography began on a sad note, when I came to realise that after the parties over, when the day is done our photographs are what we have left. After that moment it became my focus to capture these special moments, the small and the big and find the beauty in every light.

How would you describe your style?

The best part of photography for me is capturing natural, light, honest images that shine with emotion. You are perfect just how you are and it’s your natural smile, laugh and fun I want to capture. You may notice from looking through my photographs that I tend to steer away from the more formal, rigid group shots, I favour a far more relaxed & spontaneous style that shows the real feel of the day – a celebration of you and those you love.

What made you get into wedding photography?

It was always something I’d had an interest in, and when I came to realise that long gone are the days of the formal, rigid, very traditional wedding photos and I could shoot in my own style did I really get into it. I shot my first wedding completely alone, without any wedding experience, with thanks to a very trusting, lovely couple who really helped me on my way.

What sort of couple would be your ideal couple to photograph?

A couple in love who appreciate the value and importance in their photography, who embrace their day and the photography whole heartedly. I like a couple to relax, have fun and let me worry about getting the images.

Which Celebrity would you love to photograph?

Julia Roberts, an absolute natural beauty, with a smile as big as hers how can you go wrong? (Plus she is my favourite actress.)

What in your opinion makes the perfect photo?

A photo that is honest, natural and lets us never forget exactly how we felt, looked and smiled that time.

What is your favorite photo that you have taken?

My favourite photo is of a young girl I photographed dancing in the dark at a wedding. She was so completely caught up in the moment and unaware of me that it made a fantastic photo – I remember when I used to spin around the dance floor.

What are your favourite wedding styles to photograph?

I love all weddings, but I’m particularly drawn to weddings that really echo the couples personalities and their relationship together, including a lot of personal, quirky touches that really make the wedding their own.

What tips or advice would you like to give to couples prior to being photographed?

Being photographed can be a daunting prospect for many couples. My advice would be to get to know your photographer before hand, sometimes you may meet once or twice before the big day. That’s why an engagement shoot can be a great way to get to know your photographer a little better and make you feel far more relaxed in front of the camera.

What is the one thing you love most about your job?

Helping make someones wedding day is a great feeling, it’s a privilege to know that your photos will be the ones they look back on in years to come.

Why Weddings are the Perfect Occasion for Pearls

Posted on: April 19th, 2012 by Vicki No Comments

Weddings are, of course, a joyous occasion and it is important (for all concerned) that the bride looks her best and this will be dependent on a number of different factors. It goes without saying that it will be her choice of wedding dress that has the biggest bearing on her overall appearance but following a close second in the style stakes will be her choice of wedding jewellery.

It goes without saying that there are a multitude of options when deciding upon wedding jewellery but far and away one of the most popular for brides of all ages is that of pearls. It is, perhaps, not altogether surprising that pearl jewellery proves so popular amongst brides-to-be as there are few other accessories out there which are quite as elegant and striking as a pearl necklace or a well-chosen pair of pearl earrings.

Picking the Perfect Pearls

Understated elegance and sophistication are invariably the order of the day for most brides and, fortunately, these are both characteristics that pearl jewellery boast in abundance. Take a look at a few beautiful examples of the sorts of pearls which are likely to be big amongst brides-to-be in 2012 and
beyond:

The examples of pearl jewellery above (a beautiful Freshwater pearl necklace and a stunning pair of white drop freshwater pearl earrings truly showcase just ) how spectacular pearls can be and their demure and understated nature makes them the ideal choice for any sophisticated wedding event. It is of
paramount importance to make sure that the wedding jewellery that you pick
perfectly complements the wedding dress and the bride’s other accessory choices – which again points to why pearls are typically perfect for the job as they tend to go with almost any dress colour or style.

When choosing pearls for a wedding, you will be spoilt for choice as there are pieces which herald from various far-flung locations the world over – such as Tahitian pearls or Akoya pearl jewellery. But, as with most choices the bride makes for her big day, it will come down to a matter of personal preference and it is important that she feel comfortable with her choice of wedding jewellery. There will be so many photos of the bride on her big day and few forms of jewellery are more suited to being committed to celluloid than that of pearls – they positively exude class and elegance and will elevate any bride’s outfit. Take a look at some more wedding jewellery ideas below:

So, if you’re getting married this year and want a few ideas for your wedding jewellery, you won’t go too far wrong with some of the stunning pieces pictured above. Getting married is such a wonderful occasion and the bride will look beautiful no matter what accessories she chooses but a lot of brides today have a certain soft spot for pearls which explains the massive increase in brides wearing pearl jewellery on their big day.

Wedding Planning Advice from Vera Wang

Posted on: April 14th, 2012 by Vicki No Comments

“If you love the mood of candlelight, don’t shy away from adding touches of decorative lighting to your wedding?

A roaring fire or pinpoint lights can introduce a hint of seduction to the atmosphere, particularly for key moments such as the first dance, wedding toast or tossing of the bouquet. Lighting is not only crucial for photography, but also influences the way your guests will look and feel. Lighting is a perfect way to encourage people to relax, and natural lighting can add charm and fun to the wedding” – XO, Vera

Hawaiian Themed Wedding

Posted on: March 13th, 2012 by Vicki No Comments

When planning a Hawaiian themed wedding, we want to capture the beauty of the romantic island by choosing the right colours, decor, and flowers. Choosing light pink, yellow, and white for the wedding colours is a great way to demonstrate the aesthetic beauty of Hawaii and selecting Dendrobium Orchid Blossoms, Plumeria, and loose Ti Leaves for the flowers is a perfect choice as they are tropical and commonly used in Hawaii.

Have a look at some of these pictures below for inspiration!
